Aspen Institute - Case Study
A Partnership for Better Community Building
In 2025, the Aspen Institute launched its brand new Trust in Practice Summit. To celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Aspen Institute, the Trust in Practice Summit was designated for Chicago, where the founders, Walter Paepcke and his wife Elizabeth, were from. The idea for the conference was to bring voices from a wide range of communities and start a discussion on how we rebuild trust in American culture.
Challenge
Trust in Practice Summit in Chicago was a two-day conference. The first day was divided into several small, casual sessions held simultaneously, and the second day was reserved for the main session in the main room. In addition to capturing b-roll in multiple rooms, we were tasked with capturing several interviews throughout the two days. The main challenge was space - or lack of it. We had one room for half a day to set up the lights, and after lunch, we had to move to another room. Having a portable lighting kit was once again crucial to our success. Additionally, the interview schedule and some sessions deviated from the agenda. Our crew of 2 videographers, capable of handling every job on set, was flexible, bringing b-roll and interview equipment to ensure full coverage.
Moreover, the Aspen Institute had a 5-day turnaround time for 3 videos with two rounds of edits. We leveraged Frame.io to synchronize clients' comments with our editing sequences and delivered a draft 24 hours after the comments were made. In addition, the same videographers who worked the event were also the editors, so they had a good idea of what was in the footage, which sped up the editing process.
Outcome
For the Trust in Practice Summit 2025, Nichevisuals placed a bid and was selected out of many video production companies in Chicago. The Aspen Institute Team was so pleased with our collaboration that we were once again hired to produce video content for their Cybersecurity Summit in Washington, DC.
Although we are a Chicago-based video production company, we now have a proven track record of producing high-quality video content outside of Chicago. The key to our success is using gear with a small footprint but strong cinematic punch (like the Sony FX3 camera series and the GM lens). We understand that we are at an event, not on a film set. The event takes priority, and we are always mindful of how not to get in the way. We are always thinking about quality, but also how we can pack the gear and fly anywhere to replicate our success.
